Bloomingdale's Brunch is HUGE Success!

Posted: December 3, 2012

A festive gathering of over 150 JCHE supporters spent Sunday morning eating a delicious brunch hosted by Bloomingdale's and provided by Baker's Best Catering, enjoying private shopping throughout the store and contributing to needed services for seniors who live at JCHE. Over $8,000 was raised for essential programs that enhance the quality of life for JCHE residents. The benefits of the day extended further. We expanded our reach into the community, made many new friends and strengthened our partnership with Bloomingdale's!

The main floor of the store's Women's Fashions was aglow. Guests were energized by event co-chairs, Stacey Nevins, Debbie Mann and Paz Swissa, as well as JCHE President and CEO Amy Schectman. In their remarks, they discussed the vital ways JCHE enables 1,500 older adults -- the majority of whom are extremely low income -- to age successfully in a supportive and engaging community.

JCHE guests were enthused to check out the store's private sales before the store opened to the public. Good savings on special items is always an attraction, but it takes on new meaning when it is combined with tzedakah (charity). At the end of the day, Bloomingdale's totaled all the sales receipts from JCHE guests and will soon donate 10% to the organization.

Funds raised yesterday will support a full array of programs and services from wheelchair accessible transportation, a comprehensive fitness and wellness program, staff support to coordinate services, and intergenerational programs where seniors can offer young people their skills, insights and attention.

Special kudos to Laurie Thorton, General Manager of Bloomingdale's and her team.

What a meaningful way to begin the holiday season!!
