The New Year holidays are a good time to re-commit to the mission of senior housing

Posted: September 20, 2013

Happy new year!  The beautiful set of Jewish holidays that fall in the fall (!) always provide an important spiritual rejuvenation for me.  The combination of time for honest reflection, special and (too) plentiful food, gathering of friends and family and extensive ritual all contribute to a sense of hope and possibility—it’s a new year, all good things can happen.

There’s a bit about life at JCHE that seems totally in sync with this cycle of renewal.  We have people from 28 different countries, speaking 19 different languages, observing numerous holidays and special occasions and having experienced 1500 unique life histories before they came to JCHE.  And while every resident comes with a different story, each is influenced by their neighbors as they actively shape their own next chapter.

Taking a role in one’s own destiny is a huge theme at Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur.  By being purposeful about how you behave in the world, you become each year closer to the person you want to be.  And at JCHE, we take this moment to re-commit to supporting our tenants, volunteers, board members and staff in their journey.
