Who We Are

Who We Are

Welcome to Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly!

Since 1965, JCHE has been building and managing affordable, non-sectarian housing for independent seniors in the Greater Boston area. We are nationally recognized for the high quality of our communities and for the excellence of our resident services.

JCHE’s housing is home to over 1,300 older people. Ulin House, Leventhal House and Genesis House are located in Brighton, MA; Golda Meir House and Coleman House are in Newton, MA. (Locations) A sixth building – Morton and Etta Shillman House on the Weinberg Campus in Framingham, MA -- is currently in development and slated to open in June 2011. (Shillman House)

At JCHE, we understand that older people can live independently as they age if they are in housing that provides much more than just shelter. Understanding the key ingredients for successful aging, our housing is rich with activity and social interaction. Here, older adults can enjoy friends, discuss books, learn computer skills, strengthen muscles, improve their balance, volunteer in schools, and entertain their own families in attractive surroundings. (Programs and Services)

JCHE’s housing fosters an independent lifestyle. Residents live in complete apartments with full kitchens. They take pride in their buildings: many of JCHE residents are volunteers.  Like every strong community, those who live here look out for one another and work together to maintain a quality lifestyle.

For those residents who face greater challenges, JCHE’s CaringChoices program and other supportive services make it possible to continue living at home, and avoid or delay relocation to an institutional setting.

JCHE’s housing is financed and supported by state and federal programs, and through gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Private contributions make it possible to create communities that go beyond bricks and mortar, and offer an environment that is welcoming, stimulating and supportive. (Giving Opportunities)
