Wednesday for Senior Learners

Welcome to Week 3 of “Wednesday for Senior Learners”, a 14-week JCHE program hosted at our Coleman House in Newton that brings together local authors, historians, and scholars to deliver engaging lectures on topics ranging from presidential history to the art of writing a short story. The program also features entertainment, current events discussions, and exercise classes geared to senior adults. Registration is open, so please help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity for learning and connection.

11:30am- “The Election of John F. Kennedy”- Dr. Gary Hylander
Dr. Hylander earned his PhD at Boston College. He is an independent scholar who specializes as a presidential historian, pedagogical specialist for the NEH, and professor of history at Framingham State University. Dr. Hylander is a frequent presenter at library forums, historical societies, senior living centers, civic and professional organizations as well as a public affairs commentator on local cable news and radio.

1:15pm-“The Life and Music of Barbra Streisand”-Bruce Hambro
Bruce Hambro is a student of the American entertainment business. In his programs, Mr. Hambro draws on his varied experience in acting, public speaking and the teaching of History in the public schools. Hambro has been a big fan and devotee of popular music and motion pictures all his life. He was formerly a film salesman with the Walt Disney Company and later ran his own firm as a manager and booking agent in the music business. Bruce brings wealth of knowledge of the entertainment world along with his great passion to every community.
