Wednesday for Senior Learners

Welcome to Week 2 of “Wednesday for Senior Learners”, a 14-week JCHE program hosted at our Coleman House in Newton that brings together local authors, historians, and scholars to deliver engaging lectures on topics ranging from presidential history to the art of writing a short story. The program also features entertainment, current events discussions, and exercise classes geared to senior adults. Registration is open, so please help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity for learning and connection.

11:30am- Parsha of the week with Rabbi Charni Flame Selch.

Rabbi Selch is currently a staff chaplain with the Jewish Chaplaincy Council of Massachusetts.

She has previously served as a pulpit Rabbi with congregations in Minnesota, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts and Israel and was the interim Education Director at Congregation B’nai Israel in Northampton.

Rabbi Selch has created successful programs and has been recognized for her innovative programming and the way she makes sessions warm, haimish and welcoming. Rabbi Selch received her Rabbinic Ordination from Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York and she also holds an M.A. in Jewish Studies, also from JTSA.

1:15pm – Beth Purcell and Roy Gould

Beth Purcell has a broad background in musical theatre which enriches her interpretation of songs in the American Songbook. From jazz cafes to performance halls, she has entertained throughout New England. She also enjoys her role as Cantorial Soloist at Temple Beth Shalom in Melrose where she’s worked for the past 12 years. Pianist and composer Roy Gould has been making music in New England and his native New York City all his life, with a “day job” as a researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
