Wednesday for Senior Learners Featured in LeadingAge Magazine

Posted: July 19, 2017

“Senior-focused activities build connection, purpose, decrease loneliness and stimulate both body and mind,” JCHE’s Director of Community Engagement Cindy Katzeff tells LeadingAge Magazine, who interviewed Cindy to gain insight into how affordable housing providers develop creative life enrichment programs for their residents.

Cindy is referring to the activities offered through Wednesday for Senior Learners, a 14-week JCHE program hosted at our Coleman House in Newton that brings together local authors, historians, and scholars to deliver engaging lectures on topics ranging from presidential history to the art of writing a short story. The program also features entertainment, current events discussions, and exercise classes geared to senior adults.

Wednesday for Senior Learners advances a major JCHE strategic goal: to integrate our activity-rich campuses with local communities by inviting the community in and offering our services outside. In doing so, we seek to establish “village centers”—hubs of exciting activity with enticing spaces and programs and energy.

“We believe in village centers and the positive effect they have on residents by bringing a whole new cohort into our building. The activities listed in our calendar open up doors outside of our walls to both residents and community members alike,” explains Cindy.

Registration for Wednesday for Senior Learners is now open, so please help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity for learning and connection. To register, please contact Kara at 617-614-5339. You may also register in person at Coleman House located at 677 Winchester Street Newton, MA 02459.
