"Wednesday for Senior Learners" Resumes!

We’re excited to announce the start of a new semester of “Wednesday for Senior Learners”, a 14-week JCHE program hosted at our Coleman House in Newton that brings together local authors, historians, and scholars to deliver engaging lectures on topics ranging from presidential history to the art of writing a short story. The program also features entertainment, current events discussions, and exercise classes geared to senior adults. Registration is open, so please help us spread the word about this exciting opportunity for learning and connection.

Week 1, January 25, 2017

11:30am- “Nat Turner”- Professor Kenneth Greenberg

Ken Greenberg is a Distinguished Professor of History and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Suffolk University. He is the author of several books, including Masters and Statesmen: The Political Culture of American Slavery and the editor of The Confessions of Nat Turner.

12:30pm– Lunch – Chicken Salad Sandwich - $5.00

1:15pm – “The American West” ArtMatters

ArtMatters, an art program designed to keep individuals connected to the world and encourage a loving relationship with the visual arts. Artwork describes shared feelings, tells stories, re-enacts events, and imparts magic and power. Thousands of years of history can be made real by a single painting.

It is also fun, entertaining, and inspiring.

Art is for everyone. People are the only creatures living on earth that communicate with pictures. Art connects people to one another and keeps them uniquely human.
