Shillman has a 'quality' celebration!

Posted: October 1, 2013

An overflow audience of residents and family members gathered at Shillman House on Sunday. The building had recently been awarded the prestigious designation of Community of Quality from the National Affordable Housing Management Association. It seemed only fitting to acknowledge this award with wonderful music -- and the exceptional Sababa delivered!!

The five-piece band is comprised of very talented middle and high schoolers from the North Shore. They showcased their vocal, guitar, keyboard, sax and drum skills playing a variety of klezmer, Israeli, contemporary and original numbers. The audience was happy to clap and sing along -- residents who were in the bistro were inspired to dance!

JCHE's Chief of Operations Carl Zack introduced Sarah Green Vaswani who is the building's new executive director. Sarah described the review process for the award -- NAHMA looked closely at the building's management, maintenance, staffing and service delivery. She presented the certificate to Paul Rosenberg. Paul served as chair of JCHE's board during much of the development of Shillman House. He graciously accepted the award on behalf of the board who worked tenaciously to bring Shillman to life.

Carol Hanover told the audience that as chair of the board's fund development committee, she understands how invaluable contributions are to ensuring the quality at Shillman and all JCHE's communities. She explained that so many aspects of what makes Shillman exceptional -- including the fitness and wellness program, the accessible van and the intergenerational program  -- are funded privately. She urged the residents and their guests to be part of the many individuals in Greater Boston and MetroWest who support JCHE.
