Sen. Elizabeth Warren Cites JCHE as Key Advocate for Senior Housing

Posted: May 18, 2017

At a hearing of the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging held Wednesday, May 17, Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren called for renewed federal support for new senior housing to address the growing need for affordable homes for seniors. “We already have a severe housing affordability crisis for seniors. Congress hasn’t seriously funded new dedicated housing for seniors in more than five years” she said. “The 202 program has been a lifeline for seniors in Massachusetts,” she said, and noted that “Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly in Massachusetts and LeadingAge are leading the charge to try to convince Congress to revive funding for projects under the 202 program.”

JCHE has partnered with Rogerson Communities and Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) forming the Homes for All Seniors Campaign to organize the voices of older adults, grassroots leaders and constituents, and Section 202 property owners to leverage action to renew federal funding to build apartments for seniors with low incomes. Our campaign is active in Massachusetts and working nationally, connecting to the senior, housing and broader advocacy sectors to renew federal funding for new affordable senior apartments.
