Neighbors helping neighbors
Natalie Lichtenstein had never been a teacher. But she recognized that some of her Coleman House neighbors who had immigrated to this country were interested in improving their English skills. She decided to set up a conversational English class, publicize it throughout the building, and see if there was any interest. Very quickly, 11 people joined the weekly group, and the conversation began! Everyone involved -- instructor and students -- is having a great time. The classes are animated and fun. The participants recently brought flowers to class to acknowledge their instructor's 83rd birthday. The card read: to a great teacher, with respect and love. Natalie was deeply moved. "This is clearly one of the best things I have ever done in my life!"
