Honoring our newest Americans
Posted: July 7, 2011
It's a tradition on our Brighton campus to take time on or around the Fourth of July to acknowledge our residents who have become U.S. citizens over the past 12 months. Their names are called and red/white/blue leis are placed around their necks. A live band provides the spirited music and the dancing begins. The auditorium is filled with others who have become citizens in previous years. While everyone applauds the newest citizens, only those who have come before them really understand the significance of this achievement. For most, it is a goal that was set years ago and required much hard work and tenancity.
