Great Days for Seniors -- the adult day health program located at JCHE -- celebrates its Bar Mitzvah year!
Great Days for Seniors, also known as Club Genesis and The Club, just celebrated its Bar Mitzvah. June 2012 marked the 13th year of serving both residents of JCHE housing and members of the community. In 1997, JCHE indentified an unmet need of its residents - a place to spend the day in an engaging, supervised setting. JCHE and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center teamed up to create Great Days for Seniors, which Hebrew Rehab has managed ever since.
The Club is conveniently located on the first floor of Genesis House on the JCHE Brighton campus. It is a cozy, home-like environment where people who have medical needs receive one-on-one attention from the professional staff. They come not only to receive assistance with some of the challenges of daily life such as remembering to take medication, personal care and care management, but also to talk with friends and neighbors, exercise, learn about current events, play games, share a meal, enjoy music and sing, and celebrate birthdays and holidays together.
Unlike other adult day health centers, The Club is a small, personalized program (a maximum of 24 participants each day), staffed by a nurse, social service worker, activity coordinator and activity assistant. Each is fluent in English and Russian. The team is committed to creating a supportive and welcoming environment that enables Club members to maintain their independence.
Elina Gartsman, whose father has participated in Great Days for Seniors since 2005, writes “Congratulations to the Great Days for Seniors Program on its 13th anniversary. Best wishes to ALL who make this important program happen! My father and I are deeply thankful to Elaine Aronsky and the whole team of wonderful professionals at the Great Days for Seniors Program for their dedication, enthusiasm and warm care.
