Golda celebrates the New Year!

Posted: September 3, 2013

Times like these give the word “community” in JCHE’s name its special meaning. On Friday, August 30, residents at Golda Meir House came together and enjoyed a celebratory meal. The room was abuzz as residents took their seats, chatted with one another and JCHE staff from all buildings who served as the volunteer wait staff.

The holiday rituals preceeded the meal. Millie Kessler lit the candles, Boris Krasik blessed the challah along with the apples and honey, and Aaron Beshansky recited the prayer over the wine. Rabbi Norbert Weinberg from Newton's historic Adams Street Synagogue offered special words for the New Year and blew the shofar.Rabbi Weinberg has attended Gloda's New Year's luncheon for several years, always bringing along his warmth, humor and love of Torah.

And then it was time for a delicious Kosher feast, beginning with matzo ball soup of course! Hats off to David Seltzer, Kristina Zeqo and the amazing dining staff who prepared the exceptional meal. Kudos to Vanessa Whited who coordinated the celebration and the many volunteers who made it happen.

What a wonderful way to welcome in the New Year! L'shana Tovah!
