Francine Godfrey is AJAS's Humanitarian of the Year!

Posted: March 4, 2013

We are so pleased to announce that this past weekend, at the national conference for the Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS), Francine was awarded the prestigious 2013 AJAS Humanitarian Award.

For the past eight years, Francine, JCHE’s Director of Fitness and Wellness, has played an integral role in revitalizing the Jewish community in Dnepropetrovsk (Dnep) Ukraine. Her primary focus has been on the development of a comprehensive fitness and wellness program for the elderly residents of Beit Baruch, the first Jewish-sponsored assisted living facility in the city.

Francine has developed the Dnep program based on the very successful program she created at JCHE. Like residents at each JCHE community, those who live at Beit Baruch have access to an indiviudalized exercise program, a senior-friendly fitness center, falls prevention, gentle exercises for frailer participants, and a music and movement class. Remarkably, 100% of the Beit Baruch residents participate in at least one aspect of the program!

Francine has made 10 visits to Dnep, extending her heart and soul to profoundly change the lives of many forgotten people!
