"Before I started coming to the JCHE gym I never realized the importance of exercise," admits Coleman House resident Jacob.

"I've been taught the true value of exercise, and now fully understand its importance at my age. It's the best thing for me, and it keeps me going at age 97. I look forward towards continuing to exercise for as long as I can!"

And our dedicated fitness staff will be there every step of the way to ensure Jacob and all our residents get the training and support tailored to their unique needs so that they can lead healthy and active lives!

Since Jacob started coming to the gym 6 years ago at age 91 (!), he has gotten significantly stronger. Check out his resistance training progress:

Leg curl- 50lbs to 60lbs

Leg extension- 50lbs to 63lbs

Triceps- 90lbs to 95lbs

Leg press- 225lbs to 240lbs

Upper back- 55 lbs to 60lbs

Thanks for being an inspiration to us all, Jacob!

"I have lived at JCHE for just about a year. One of the things that I looked for in selecting a new residence was a strong exercise program. I have found that and more here at JCHE," says JCHE resident Jean.

"I attend an exercise program M-W-F and use the gym machines and treadmill T &Th. The staff, Stacy, Danielle, and Meredith are very obliging. I had become out of shape over the years. After giving me a test to start me at my optimum beginning level, they stayed right with me as I got used to my program.

"Right from the start I felt my arm and leg muscles working harder not only on the machines but also during the exercise program. I find that I am walking outdoors further as a result of the treadmill and I find it easier to carry my groceries into my apartment as a result of the arm machines. Another good thing is that my upper arms and thighs are beginning to firm up nicely.

"A couple of weeks ago Stacy gave me another test. It’s time to increase the weights!"

Jean's resistance change over just one year:

Leg press- 65lbs to 70lbs

Triceps- 25lbs to 28lbs

Upper back- 5lbs to 7lbs

Leg extension- 3lbs to 11lbs

Leg curl- 14lbs to 16lbs

Way to go, Jean!
