BU OT students bring their expertise and enthusiasm to Genesis House

Posted: February 28, 2012

Amanda Matteo, a graduate student at BU's School of Occupational Therapy and 16 of her peers recognized Worldwide OT Day of Service by organizing an afternoon of crafts and fun at Genesis House. The goal of the service day was for for OT professionals and students to connect with their communities and share their talents. The BU students guided Brighton residents as they created beautiful, yarn-wrapped picture frames. They offered inidividual attention to all and a wonderful opportunity for conversation with neighbors. The project required fine motor skills and the students were available to gently assist anyone who had difficulties with the task. The students brought a camera to take photos of anyone interested in an image for their frames. Some residents came prepared with family photos which they inserted into the frames once they were completed.
