Boston University Students Drop By for Tea with Residents
Posted: March 27, 2017
"I really want to talk to a Russian World War II veteran," Alex, a Boston University junior, told us when he and his classmates inquired about connecting with JCHE's vibrant Russian community.
Alex is enrolled in Russian in Boston: Advanced Experiential Russian, a new course that challenges students to immerse in Boston's Russian culture and to "reflect creatively on real-life experiences."
We were glad to oblige, and hosted an afternoon tea at our Kurlat Lounge with six BU students and several Russian residents, who were eager to chat with young men and women interested in their native language and culture.
It was a wonderful event, as residents shared their life stories with their attentive guests. And, we're happy to say, Alex got his opportunity to chat with a WWII veteran!
The students hope to compile stories about the Russian immigrant experience in Boston, and even create a play based on everything they learn! A few students expressed interest in volunteering at JCHE.
We look forward to hosting more of these events in the coming months.
