Position:  Temporary Per Diem Hospitality Team Member

Reports To: Assistant Director, Shillman House

Status: Temporary Part Time

Summary: Join a dynamic and caring team. The Hospitality Team Member is responsible for providing direct services to residents of Shillman House, an independent living community for older adults, in the form of Housekeeping and Laundry and may be called upon to provide housekeeping services in Shillman House Common Areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

HOUSEKEEPING

·         Adheres to a work schedule that provides for cleaning in apartments to which he/she is assigned.

·         Cleans and sanitizes kitchen (all surfaces, and fixtures) and bathroom (sink, shower, toilet, and fixtures),

·         Sweeps and mops floors in kitchen and bathroom

·         Vacuums carpeted floor

·         Dusts all surfaces

·         Cleans windows

·         Empties household rubbish

·         Assists with maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of residents’ apartments

·         Other housekeeping tasks as requested in situations where participation may be required.

·         Comprehends the need for proper cleaning, sanitizing and housekeeping techniques

·         Observes and reports changes in residents’ condition, behavior or mental status to Resident Services Coordinator and/or Executive Director

·         May be responsible for periodic cleaning of some of the facility’s common areas, restrooms and hallways

·         Performs all other duties as requested

LAUNDRY

·         Wears gloves when doing laundry

·         Collects residents’ flat linen (sheets and towels), strips bed if necessary

·         Uses residents’ laundry detergent and fabric softener

·         Washes flat linen in cold water

·         Folds clean laundry and leaves on residents’ bed

·         Launders personal laundry according to instructions

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Complies with community’s dress standards suitable for the resident service department

·         Encourages and supports the concept of Independent Living

·         Works assigned hours per week

·         Assure confidentiality of all resident information

·         Adhere to scheduled hours and minimize unscheduled absence

·         Adhere to all safety policies including reporting/removing hazards immediately ; wears gloves as needed.

·         Report all unusual occurrences promptly

·         Use equipment and supplies in an appropriate and cost effective manner

·         Adheres to all OSHA regulations and safety procedures when lifting, bending or using equipment

·         Immediately reports any personal accident or work-related injury to Supervisor or Human Resources

·         Attend all required in-service education programs

·         Ensures that the location adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out the site’s fire, safety and disaster plans and current MSDS

·         Responsible for compliance with all JCHE written policies and practices as provided.

·         Performs other tasks that may become necessary/appropriate as requested by the Assistant Director and/or Executive Director.

·         Possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, customers, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public

·         Is aware of and rehearsed in their role in marketing Shillman House, and its services to all customers, vendors, referral sources, and fellow employees

·         Under minimal supervision, performs housekeeping and laundry services. Under more direct supervision, assist with special cleaning and/or related projects

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

·         Must be physically able to twist, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, climb stairs, lift and carry equipment and supplies to a minimum of shoulder height weighing up to 30 lbs. 

·         Must have physical stamina to complete job related tasks throughout the workday. 

·         Must be aware of and compliant with the OSHA guidelines and aware of rules for handling potentially hazardous or infectious materials. 

 

Qualifications:

·         High School degree or equivalent preferred.  Able to speak, read and write effectively in English.

·         Previous work in a hospitality environment and interaction with older adults preferred.

·         Interest and demonstrated ability to work with older adults.  Must possess an ability to learn technical aspects of position.

·         Must be dependable, and have a warm and caring attitude towards older adults. 

·         Must be willing to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of a team. 

·         Basic ability to problem solve, accept direction and utilize supervision to enhance work performance. 

·         Must be able to relate and work well with the ill, disabled, elderly and at times emotionally upset or hostile people.
