Shillman on Shillman: New Senior Living in Metro West

Posted: July 19, 2012

“My mother lived happily at Coleman House after my father died.  Once she passed, I knew I couldn’t do anything anymore to help her—so I resolved to do something to help other people’s mothers and grandmothers.  That’s why I donated the money to build Shillman House.”  So began Dr. Bob’s introduction of himself to the residents of Shillman House.  They applauded.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a more enthusiastic visitor.  Dr. Bob and Mao, his wife, kicked all the proverbial tires—testing the solidity of the doors, checking how well the kitchen drawers closed themselves and exploring the gym and library in depth—and were delighted with the quality of construction and the thoughtfulness of design.  Dr. Bob loved the boiler room and electric panels—ever the engineer—and noted that when the parts of a building that no one typically sees are so spotless and well organized, you know the property is well run.

When Dr. Bob learned of the rent levels and all that they include, he was positively stunned and offered:  “anyone who doesn’t move in here is missing out on a huge value and a terrific environment.  And you can quote me on that!”

Dr. Bob is a discerning individual.  He built a company, Cognex into a multi-million dollar industry leader by focus, talent and drive.  He detected in Shillman House the same commitment to quality and excellence.

We got the best possible seal of approval at the end of the visit:  “I am proud to have my name on this building.”  We breathed a huge sigh of relief and we high-fived our way back to the office!
