Applying to Shillman House

The application process for Shillman House varies slightly depending upon whether you are seeking a market rate or an income-qualified apartment.  In either situation, there is no application fee or entrance fee. At least one resident in each apartment must be age 62 or older.

Please note that you may apply for both the market rate and the income-qualified programs. Market rate residents who are eligible for the income-qualified apartments may move into a market rate apartment if an income-qualified unit is not available. When their name is at the top of the wait list for the income-qualified apartments, they may change to that program. Call for more information.

Market Rate Apartments

If you are interested in reserving an available apartment or adding your name to our wait list, please complete the Application for Shillman House Market Rate Apartments. The application can be downloaded below or mailed to you by contacting Sarah Green Vaswant via email at sgreenvaswani@jche.org or via telephone at (508) 405-8602.

Once the application is completed, please return it to the Shillman House Marketing Office at 49 Edmands Road, Framingham, MA 01701 with a fully-refundable deposit check of $750 payable to JCHE.

Income-Qualified Apartments

JCHE offers two kinds of affordable apartments at Shillman House. Individuals or couples who are eligible for these apartments must qualify under guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

A portion of the income-qualified apartments have a Section 8 subsidy. If you qualify for this subsidy your rent is calculated at 30% of your adjusted gross annual income. There are also apartments that are available for individuals or couples who qualify for a Tax Credit subsidy. The rent for these apartments is fixed at a below-market rate.

A single person or a couple can apply for a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment. Households of two or more people can apply for one of a limited number of two bedroom/one bathroom apartments. Preference for these apartments, however, will be given to households of non-couples.
