New Affordable Senior Community in the Works for Brookline's Coolidge Corner

JCHE is proud to announce that we are planning our first community in Brookline. In a unique partnership, JCHE has acquired land from Congregation Kehillath Israel to develop an affordable, non-sectarian senior independent living community in Coolidge Corner at 370 Harvard Street.

According to the Director of UMass-Gerontology, “There is no better neighborhood in the United States for an older adult to live in [than Coolidge Corner].”

370 Harvard Street Project Preview:

The planned state-of-the-art sustainable building will include:  

  • 62 affordable rental apartments for seniors 62 and older with a range of incomes (a mix of 1 and 2 bedrooms)
  • Inviting, vibrant resident common spaces
  • A ground floor commercial space for community-oriented retail
  • JCHE’s award winning programs and supportive services including educational classes, intergenerational programs, senior-specific fitness classes, cultural events and more.
  • A beautiful public pocket park on Harvard Street and a private landscaped courtyard

370 Harvard Street will be centrally located near popular dining, coffee shops, boutiques, an independent bookstore, pharmacies, the Coolidge Corner Theater and much more. In addition to all that Coolidge Corner offers, residents can also enjoy the programs and services at the Town of Brookline’s Senior Center a few blocks away.

A JCHE van will make regularly scheduled trips and there are public transit options including the MBTA Green Line and MBTA bus route 66 to Harvard Square and Brookline Village. Please note there will be no resident parking available.

JCHE appreciates the amazing local support we have received for the project. From August 2015 to November 2016, JCHE held a 15-month community process, including 13 public meetings and presentations to develop a design the neighbors would love. Throughout this process, the Town of Brookline and the neighbors have been terrific partners, providing helpful insight that enhanced the design and gave us great program ideas. As a result of this amazing process, the project received its 40B Comprehensive Permit from the Town on April 13, 2017. The Board of Selectmen, with support from the Housing Advisory Board (HAB) also voted to award up to $2.5 million for the project in a combination of Brookline Housing Trust, HOME and/or CDBG funds.
